Wellington

Tuesday, 21 October

In the morning I rode into town with Barry, and he took me along the harbor downtown, from where he went to work and I on to explore. Wellington is a very cool city – a small big city, and it has a very vibrant feel. Cuba St. is full of cool restaurants and hipster cafes; the water front is full of people running and cycling all day long. It was another beautiful sunny day – I planned to visit the museum and do some other things, but after a morning catching up on emails and blogging in a really cool cafĂ© called Olive (highly recommended!), I couldn’t bring myself to go back indoors.

I sat by the waterfront and ate the second sandwich Ali made me for the train ride, watched people walk/run/bike by, and talked to Jill for more than a couple hours, which made for an absolutely perfect afternoon.

Stayed a second night with Barry and Fiona – we watched old archives of NZ history from the 50s to 70s which was quite interesting.

Would love to spend more time in Wellington someday!

To give you an idea where I've been and where I'm going, here's a map. Red shows where I've biked, blue is the train and ferry section, and green shows where I'm planning to go.
